Zoom meeting with Module three - In research terms ' What are you doing?'
So this morning bright and early I had a zoom meeting with Helen and a few others from Module 3.
We all took it in turns to discuss what we are doing our inquiry on and where each of us are at with the module thus far. We then discussed some of our interview questions and how we can improve them. Many people have already started to interview candidates and they have found new ideas and question arising from them already.
Helen then encouraged us to focus our questions on what we really want to answers to for our inquiry. find one specific area in our inquiry to research and have that in mind when coming up with questions.
Questions should be no more than 5 and the interview should last no more than an hour.
When it comes to the Lit Review, it was advised to find 3 strong themes in your inquiry to focus on and go from there. Don't get lost with loads of ideas as we dont have much time for research.
Helen also suggested writing everything done in a journal on what you learn and discover as you go alone. Reflect on everything and get it down on paper! she said this will help with our reflective presentations at the end of the course. i.e ' what did i learn from this process?'
After today's discussion i think i am going to use narrative research as that seems to be the most logical methodology for me to use for my inquiry. I need to do more research into what exactly that is.
Also what was suggested was to transcript every interview you take. you wont need to hand in your transcript or be graded on them but they are good to have to help with your data collection and reflection when writing your essay.
So what I've taken from this morning discussion is i need to aim my questions around casting in musical theatre as that is what my current professional practice is. I need to research the meaning of equity as i am not 100% confident on what exactly that is.
So overall a great productive morning. I have sent out endless emails to potential interviews and i'm looking forward to starting that side of this process.
Until next time
CG xoxo
