Welcome Back Zoom Call

So we had our first skype call of the term on friday the 5th of February and it went very well.

Helen explained the term to everyone and what to look out for. She mentioned what would help us along the way i.e. the library, handbook, eachother. we all got to introduce ourselves to the group. everyone seemed so lovely and keen to crack on with the term ahead.

So this is my 3rd time attacking Module 2! Every time before i let my work or life get in the way of me completing the module and also being very under confident in what I was meant to be doing. I felt like I had to understand everything that I was learning to succeed and now I have realised that is not the case at all.

In the past I have found it hard to get through the handbook and find a topic to focus on. Since the pandemic, I have been on my own spiritual and mindfulness journey and I have learnt so much about myself but also what I am capable of, even during hard times.

I have one idea on what I want to research, which is digital theatre. I was fortunate enough to be involved with a show during Summer/ Autumn last year called C-O-N-T-A-C-T. Which was the first of its kind. it is a socially distanced show, where the audience listen to the show through their headphones and follow the actors along. The actors have the same recording of the show in their ears and mime along to it. (well only partly).  At one point it was one of the only plays happening in London and it was a great experience for all involved.  So this sparked my interest to look into this further as i feel during the times we are living in now, digital theatre is the only theatre happening! So many wonderful online concerts or streaming of plays/Musicals and even live events over Zoom! Theatre is living through a digital time and THANK GOD we have it, others who knows where theatre would be.

I'm also interested in how podcast's in my opinion are becoming the new daytime chat shows. More and more people listen to podcast for advice or different opinions now days then tuning into watch the latest episode of loose women. I am interested to see if there is any weight to this theory.

Lastly mindfulness has been a massive part of my life since march 2020 and is a subject area that relates to any part of your life, including your professional practice. This is something I am very passionate about constantly learn about everyday. I would love to see if I can use this subject to be my main focus for M3!

So here's to a new term of new beginnings!

  1. Hi Chloe, I really enjoyed reading your ideas for Module Two. Since last March, I have also been on my own little spiritual journey... When I found out I could no longer do what I loved, I had to accept my life was changing and realise many other aspects of my practice. Digital Theatre is a very interesting topic, and very relevant to this current situation. The show you were involved with sounds like so much fun, you were so lucky to be part of something like that! I am looking forward to Module Two and hearing more of your ideas x

  2. Hi Chloe, great blog! I am sure this time round you will conquer module 2 and have the experience and mind set to go for it! Like Alice, I think the digital theatre idea for your inquiry is great and sooooo relevant right now in this pandemic! Plus you have personal experience of being in that position and have contacts you met through your experience! Maybe after your supervision you'll have a clear idea of where to go! Trust the process, I have certainly struggled to accept this course is not black and white / right or wrong and to just go for it!!

  3. Hi Chloe!
Really cool to hear about your digital theatre project. I do believe it's the future for the arts to carry on evolving and broadening! I watched a beautiful production online that Scottish Ballet produced recently. It was this really cool mix of the "real world" falling into live performance and coming alive through digital alterations. They seemed to create magic. With the access to technology nowadays I think we need to utilize it and all have the possibility to create magical entertainment!
Interesting to hear you mention podcasts replacing day time TV. I have really gotten into podcasts now, I feel like it really stimulates the brain when I'm doing mundane things like cooking, cleaning or walking or even painting my house. They're so accessible on spotify and you really do feel like you're getting the chance to have a conversation with some really interesting people. I particularly like to follow Deliciously Ella and SciDance. I have recently done a post on mindfulness and it would be really cool if you could give it a read! I truly hope with your third attempt at Mod 2 you'll be able to get through it this time!

  4. Hi Chloe, that show you were involved in sounds amazing... Wish I had been able to see it.
We went to see the outside version or Jesus Christ Superstar and it was amazing. The way they kept the actors apart on stage and brilliantly socially distant choreo was great.
Your enquiry sounds like it would be great at a time like this.

If I'm totally honest...and playing devil's advocate here, I find mindfullness a bit "meh" maybe it's because I don't really understand it fully but it's just not me... But would love to hear a bit more about it in a way I could maybe enjoy it a bit more.
Great to have you in our little gang.. You've got it this time... 3rd time lucky hey x

    1. Hi Clare, Thank you for your comment :). I think with mindfulness it is something that when you're ready to dive into you naturally will. I have started a youtube vlog about different self help books i have read over the pandemic and they have really shaped me into the person i am today and they are what started me on my mindfulness journey. here is the link if you fancy giving one of them a watch.

  7. Hi Chloe, really lovely blog! Digital theatre is such an interesting and relevant topic area and I'd love to see your journey of exploring this! Similarly to you, mindfulness has become a lot more important to me since last March and perhaps now you are in a position to get more out of Module 2 and 3 than you would have done the previous times - sometimes our journey becomes blocked because we have to wait for the right timing! It sounds like you have some great ideas, welcome to your new M2 family :) x

  8. Hi Chloe,
Sorry I'm a bit behind getting through everyone's blogs but it was really refreshing to read yours. I like your style of writing even in a blog, it really resonates with me :)
And I just wanted to say that I have so much respect for you. You said this is your third attempt at doing Module 2 and I think that's great. It's not easy, to have to go back. But I'm sure there are also some positives to come out of it, especially as you said you've been dedicating yourself to mindfulness and your own personal journey. It will be interesting to see how this connects to your findings. and like Roanne said maybe there are elements that wouldn't have even been there the first time around.
CONTACT project sounds so interesting and perhaps something that really is going to be a new normal or at least have a more prevalent stand in society. It's also great that that came up when it did and gives you a whole bulk of work practice to take from. Wishing you the best of luck! I'm still at the stage of finding my focus...I'm really struggling to be honest. I literally feel like it could still be anything!! So if anyone has any words of encouragement and wisdom about honing in on something I am all ears! bEST WISHES TO EVERYONE READING. Oops caps lock!!!

    1. Hi Lauren! Aw thank you so much! it has been a real struggle mentally to give this another shot but with anything in life, it's up to you how push yourself in this world and i do not want to be defeated yet! hmmm my advice would be to just write a mindmap out of everything you are passionate about to do with your practice and then go from there really. My idea came to me whilst i was listening to a podcast and it was like a light bulb moment! haha So if nothing still comes to you, maybe take yourself for a walk and listen to your fave songs and maybe something will strike a light bulb moment for you? who knows! haha I'm looking forward to reading your posts! Best Chloe x

  9. hi Chloe! Great blog, I love the topic especially because digital theatre is only a recent occurrence and it certainly helped boost many peoples outlook this past year. recently have began focusing on mindfulness, especially whilst dancing/ taking class, which has helped me to link my body and mind. Meditation and actively positively thinking has helped to boost confidence and quality of movement through creating focus and a positive mindset.
