Zoom Call 8:15am 17th February

So this morning I was up bright and early for a zoom call discussion involving all modules.

I asked the group about M2 literature review and how to structure it. The response I got was:

Part one

- Discuss the literature you find.

- When researching material be really specific in the research you are looking at. Don't just read the whole article or book. find a paragraph of chapter that really relates to your inquiry and use that. Don't waste time reading everything!

- Use different areas of information i.e. Podcasts, documentaries, articles, Ted Talks etc

Part two:

- Talk about method research. Which is how you're gonna gather research.

Surveys, case studies, interviews etc

I found this really helpful.

Also use critical thinking when writing. So you're not trying to prove anything, you're simply writing from your point of view and questioning others.... (I think!)

One thing Helen said that really stuck out to me is " you're not proven anything. It's about the journey to understand your practice better."

I think i am definitely overthinking this whole thing and making it more complicated than i need too. All i need to do is trust the process and take it day by day. Like everything with life right now. Day by day!

Someone in M3 said one good way to research is typing in keywords into search engines and having a quick read over paragraphs that mention those keywords and if they are super relevant to your inquiry, read on and save what you have found.

Another helpful tip was to research other peers blogs and see what they have found. Then if they mention anything that could be relevant to your practice, you can quote them or look up what they have found.

When writing you should cross reference and always link to ethics. Also relate everything to myself. Look at the relationship between texts, authors, educators etc.

Lastly someone asked what is the difference between methodology and Method.

Methodology - Is the approach to research.

Methods- how you're gonna gather research.

I hope this is helpful in some way. I have simply just blogged what I wrote down in my notes. So it might not make sense or be in perfect order!

The next step for me, is to crack on with the hard work and start researching different keywords i have and see where i end up.

I also think i am going to start a research journal and write how i am feeling during every process i dive into. This way when it comes to reflecting, I have a clear step by step outline of where i'm at and have been.

  1. Hi Chloe,

    I love this blog.
The discussion this morning was really useful for me just starting module one, understanding how these zoom calls and work and realise that we are all in this together. I really appreciate how helpful everybody is and now realise that you can literally ask anything. Thanks for summarising the discussion as there was a few things I missed out on my notes as I can't write very fast haha!
Look forward to reading more of your blogs.

    1. Hi Lucy. yes at first it can feel so daunting and overwhelming to even ask a question or to sound silly in front of people you don't really know but what i have learnt over the terms is just to be honest and ask those questions you are nervous to ask because it really will help you move forwards in this process. Just remember no one is judging you and like you said we are all in this together ( que HSM! haha)
I look forward to reading your posts!

  3. Hi Chloe, Great post and actually your notes are very similar to mine, but its always nice to get someone else's view point on it.
I think that i also am over thinking the whole thing, esp m1. But now we are starting module 2 i'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed again and swimming upstream as it all seems so different to what we done before? But i hope the call tomorrow will help. Im also stressing as i'm trying to cram as much as possible into my half term this week as i'm worried that when i start teaching again i wont have the motivation! I've started to use the app mandeley to collate my research. Im finding it very helpful and allows for all the lit i'm finding on my topic. It keeps it all in one place and allows me to use it and find it quickly x
Look forward to more of your blogs.

  7. Great blog Chloe, I think the research journal sounds like a really good idea to keep track of what you're looking at and how you're feeling. The keywords tip is really useful and helps filter through masses and masses of literature! x

  8. Hi Chloe, tankt ou for this Blog! I'm glad to know someone else feels the same as me!
As I was in the evening call there were obviously some different points that came up so this is great to cross reference for any extra tips that were given. "Don't just read the whole article or book. find a paragraph of chapter that really relates to your inquiry and use that. Don't waste time reading everything! " This really stuck out to me as I seem to have reading pile taller than me!!! Thank you again and good luck with the next steps xx
